Broadcast
One place through which the applications of Tomáš Roud send e-mail and push notifications.
What this is
Broadcast is a small private service running at broadcast.roud.cz. Applications
operated by Tomáš Roud — billing, monitoring and similar internal tools — hand it a message,
and it delivers that message as an e-mail or as a push notification. It exists so that sending
is configured once, in one place, instead of separately in every application.
It is not a product and there is no sign-up. Access is granted by issuing an API key to an application; no one else can submit anything.
How it works
- An application submits a message over HTTPS, authenticated with its API key.
- The message is queued and the application gets an identifier back immediately.
- A background worker delivers it — e-mail through the Gmail API, notifications through Pushover.
- The application learns the outcome from a webhook, or by asking about the identifier.
Use of Google account data
Broadcast connects to one Google account and asks for a single permission,
gmail.send, which allows it to send mail as that account. That permission is used
for exactly one thing: sending the messages that the operator's own applications submit.
Broadcast does not read, download, index or analyse the contents of any mailbox, and it has no permission that would let it. Nothing from the mailbox is shown to anyone or passed to any third party. Details are in the privacy policy.
Who runs it
Tomáš Roud — tomas@roud.cz. The service runs on a private server in Lauterbourg, France.
